雅思口语Part 2
Describe a person who contributes to society
[audio m4a="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/p2.m4a"][/audio]
You should say:
Who this person is
How you knew him/her
What type of work he/she does
And explain why you think he/she contributes to society
I would like to talk about Leonardo DiCaprio. Well, DiCaprio doesn’t really need any introduction. Most people, including me, probably first got to know him from the movie Titanic, where he co-starred with Kate Winslet, both are my favorite actors of all time. DiCaprio of course is mostly known for the many roles he plays in movies such as Inception, Shutter Island, Blood Diamonds, The Revenant which won him an Oscar. But I’ll bet many don’t know that he is also a committed environmentalist and he uses his star power to bring attention to some of the most pressing environmental issues we face today.
On Leo’s social media accounts, there’s very little self promotion, he posts photographs of wildlife, of the world’s beautiful landscapes, and he calls on people to protect the beauty of the earth. He devoted part of his Oscar winning speech to raising people’s awareness of the threats facing the natural environment. Now, DiCaprio is a UN messenger of peace, and has produced a documentary Before the Flood about a very real concern: climate change and the need for government action.
Leo believes we all have a role to play in saving our planet. His documentary is meant to educate everyone, from global leaders to everyday citizens, on the threat of climate change. And that no nation or society is i’mmune from the symptoms of climate change.
This is a noble cause, I think he sets a very good example for the whole world that “with great power comes great responsibility”. And DiCaprio is definitely practicing it and making his contributions to society.
注释:
star power 大明星的影响力
be immune to 不受…的影响
with great power comes great responsibility 能力越大责任越大
practice it 践行
noble cause 崇高的事业
雅思口语Part 3
1. Are IT-related jobs valued more by society?
[audio m4a="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/p3-1.m4a"][/audio]
Definitely. IT-related jobs make big contributions to society. I mean, some of the biggest technological changes in the past 20 years here in china have been brought about by IT. Technologies we take advantage of every day, technologies we actually take for granted, like online shopping, electronic payment, social media…the credit all goes to IT related jobs.
And they are also some of the highest-paid jobs in China. An experienced programmer in a tech company can easily make up to 200,000 dollars a year. Computer Science is now the most popular major in college and many students go abroad to study computer science, hoping to land such a job after graduation.
2. Is the quality of products worse than before?
[audio m4a="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/p3-2.m4a"][/audio]
I don’t think so. Now we live in a consumerism society, people are encouraged to keep buying new things, the result is that we never use products for a long time before dumping them and that kind of gives businesses an excuse to make short lived products. Consider iPhone, usually after 2 years, it becomes very slow, crashes happen often, the battery ages, and you need a new phone. I think this is really a bad trend because we are wasting natural resources making crappy products, it’s just not sustainable.
3. What kinds of things do people like to repair by themselves?
[audio m4a="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/p3-3.m4a"][/audio]
People tend to repair things by themselves when it doesn’t require a lot of skills. For example, changing light bulbs when one broke in your house. It really is a piece of cake and everybody can do it. You don’t need to call an electrician. Or a piece of furniture, like a squeaky chair, because a screw is loose, all you need is a screw driver to fix it, a tool that every household has.
4. Why do people like to get their mobile phones repaired in specialized stores?
[audio m4a="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/p3-4.m4a"][/audio]
I’m not sure if that’s true. I mean, most people I know including me, we all use an iPhone. And if there’s a problem, we’d go to an Apple store, find a technician who will have the phone checked, identify the problem, fix it for free or they’ll just give you a brand new phone without charging you anything. Really wonderful customer service. I just don’t think people these days really go to specialized stores to get their phones repaired. Mostly, people here don’t really trust these stores, they often get ripped off and there’s also concerns about privacy and data security.
注释:
take sth for granted 觉得…理所当然
the credit goes to …功劳归谁
land a job 找到一个工作
consumerism society 消费至上的社会
dump 丢掉
crash 死机
crappy 差
a piece of cake 小菜一丢
squeaky 吱吱作响的
rip sb off 敲竹杠
