Part 1 Gifts

1.Have you ever sent handmade gifts to others?

[audio mp3="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/getvoice-21.mp3"][/audio] I’d love to MAKE something and send it to others to express that I do care for them. However, my ability to create and build things is limited and the outcomes are all too hideous to give out. So my best bet is to write a sincere letter to others and I did that several times and they all cherished the letter well.

2.Have you ever received a great gift?

[audio mp3="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/getvoice-22.mp3"][/audio] I have received many gifts and among them the most meaningful gift was a watch my girlfriends sent to me on our anniversary day. She indicated that the endless ticking of the watch is a representation of our ceaseless love and affection. I have been wearing it since then and only took it off when taking a shower or sleeping.

3.How to choose a gift?

[audio mp3="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/getvoice-23.mp3"][/audio] I think we should take into account many factors when choosing a gift. First, we must be fully aware of avoiding the thing they dislike. After all, gifts aim to make them happy. Second, we should consider how much energy or money we should put into the gift according to our relationship with the receivers and we do not want them to be troubled by sending a gift in return.

4.Do you think you are good at choosing gifts?

[audio mp3="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/getvoice-24.mp3"][/audio] I do think that I can choose appropriate gifts for others. Since I know all my friends well, I always know what they want the most, sometimes even better than themselves. For example, one friend of mine is a crazy fan for the Korean girls-band IVE, so I sent him a poster of the band, which made him scream and shout with elation and he immediately hung the poster on the wall. However, before that, he did not even think of having a poster.

Part 2

Describe a person who enjoys cooking for others

[audio mp3="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/getvoice-25.mp3"][/audio] You should say:
Who this person is What he/she likes to cook Who he/she cooks for And explain why he/she enjoys cooking
The name Wang Gang is probably one of the most common Chinese names, like Smith in the U.S. and Mohammad in muslin countries. But recent years, people would refer to an influencer whenever this name is brought up. The account in the name of Wang Gang the Food Writer, as he calls himself, has posted hundreds of short videos, teaching the public step by step, how to cook some basic dishes in life. As Wang Gang himself was once a renowned professional cook, his videos are all based in a setting of restaurant kitchen. When he shows his awe-spring chopping skills, viewers all marvel at these nearly art-like slices of radish or carrot, or even the tofu as thin as fibers. Some viewers say that Wang Gang actually cooks for the eyes. Also, he is pretty versatile in the styles of dishes. Although he specializes in Szechuan cuisine, which typically features spicy and numbing flavors, he not only exhibits that actually Szechuan cuisine contains a large variety of flavors other than spicy, but also tries to combine the essence of it with other different cooking styles in China. For example, he uses the technique of stewing stock, which is the feature of Huaiyang Cuisine, to cook poached sliced pork, a typical Szechuan cuisine, and they achieve a mysterious harmony. I think only those who are passionate in cooking can be so innovative as to constantly create new fusion food for others.

Part 3

1.What do we need to prepare when we need to cook?

[audio mp3="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/getvoice-26.mp3"][/audio] As I often cook for myself and my family, I think we should first learn not to be afraid of the knife, fire and spitting oil. The more we fear them, the less confidence we have in using them, the more likely we are to be hurt by them. For example, when putting ingredients that contain water into the hot wok with oil in it, people are afraid of being hurt by the oil so they only put a small portion of ingredient into the wok. However, in that situation, as the amount of water is far less than that of the oil, the oil will definitely spit out. But when they put the ingredient all at once, they kind of form a lid to block the spitting. It’s the same situation with the knife. When people have a firm grip on the hilt and exert force steadily, it’s almost impossible to cut themselves.

2.Do you agree that food is an important part of Chinese festivals and ceremonies?

[audio mp3="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/getvoice-27.mp3"][/audio] Totally. Chinese people value food as an indispensable part of culture. We Chinese even use food to symbolize certain festivals. For example, in the Spring Festival, we eat dumplings. As the Chinese name of dumpling is Jiaozi, which is in the similar sound of ‘changings of the years’, people attach the wishes for a successful and peaceful new year to this food. Also, dumplings wrap the fillings inside the wrappers. This represents that all the family members, just like the ingredients in the fillings, gather together to celebrate this festival.

3.Which dishes are a must at festivals?

[audio mp3="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/getvoice-28.mp3"][/audio] For Chinese people, we prefer fish in all kinds of festivals. Since the purpose of celebrating festival is to wish for a happier life ever after. Fish, in traditional Chinese mythologies, is the original form of loong, a mythical creature that represents power, great fortune and luck. The transition from fish to loong requires a strenuous leap, which, perceived by industrious Chinese people, requires them to work harder in life for a better result. In western countries, the U.S. for example, as they prefer a casual atmosphere in festivals and maybe focus more on just having a good time, so the food that is convenient to cook and share is their favorite, like a large rack barbecued short ribs.

4.Should students learn to cook at school?

[audio mp3="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/getvoice-29.mp3"][/audio] Apart from culinary schools, which aim at raising future master chefs, ordinary schools should not include cooking lessons as a part of regular disciplines. Firstly, unlike other courses, which could commonly share a classroom for teaching, the school has to build a room equipped with stoves and sinks and operation tables that specifically serve this only function. It is therefore less cost-effective for the schools to do this. Secondly, as I consider feedback an essential part of a course, it is actually impractical for teachers to provide instructive feedback on the students’ so-called homework so even the lessons really teach the techniques of cooking, teachers cannot be possibly sure about whether students really master the skills at all.

5.Do you think cooking should be a compulsory or an elective course? Why?

[audio mp3="https://www.testdaily.cn/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/getvoice-30.mp3"][/audio] I prefer that cooking classes take the form of a club rather than a course, so between the two, elective course might be a better option. So that due to the limited class size, the school can rent a place, or they can just use the kitchen inside the school cafeteria for teaching, which caters best to the realistic situation of almost every school. Also, unlike other academic courses, in which teaching takes up most of the time, a cooking class requires individualized attention to each student and even, the teacher has to pay attention throughout the whole process of cooking, in case one maloperation may cause future works futile. So, the possible circumstance is that students, while practicing, have to rely more on themselves without proper instructions. As a result, a more compacted class size of an elective course would be better.
