Part 1 Chatting
1)Do you like chatting with friends?
Yes. I enjoy chatting with my friends. Talking with someone is a good way / to sort my thoughts / and let them out. As a result, I won’t be overwhelmed by all of the worries and emotions. What’s even better is that / all of my friends are terrific listeners / with sincere response to whatever I say. The connection between us will always provide me with the power to carry on.
2)What do you usually chat about with friends?
Our conversations will always cover a wide range of topics. Normally, we will tell each other about / what happens in our life, sharing something fun or even stupid. We also comment on major events and news, maybe engaging in some friendly discussions on politics and fashion. Our ideas might not be that professional, but they are definitely inspiring.
3)Do you prefer to chat with a group of people or with only one friend?
I prefer to chat with the only one. Firstly, the conversation between only two people / is more intimate and personal. I feel safer to convey my true thought / under this circumstance, and therefore / I am more willing to speak out. Secondly, since I can pay full attention to this conversation, my friend will feel engaged and respected, while in a group chat, ignoring the one who doesn’t talk much is normal.
4)Do you prefer to communicate face-to-face or via social media?
I am more of a face-to-face person. It offers one the chance / to capture the others’ facial expressions and body language. These two are important indicators on / whether your friend is enjoying the conversation or / how she/he is feeling at the moment. Therefore I can have a better understanding / about the whole communication / and whether I should move on to another topic.
Part 2
Describe an activity that made you feel tired
You should say:
When and where it took place
Why you took part in it
What the activity was
And explain why it made you feel tired
To be honest, I am more of a cook at home but recently the frequency of ordering take-outs has strongly increased——Suddenly washing dishes became a heavy burden to me and circumstances even occurred that I left a bowl of cereal and milk in the sink for as long as a whole week, until green mold appeared on the surface. Since washing and cleaning was an indispensable part in my daily diet, if I ever wanted to carry on cooking, I needed to sort that out.
Trying to identify the reasons, I checked upon several factors. First, I found out that the new dish detergent was not that effective. Sometimes I needed two pumps to clean a pot so when I felt that the cooking utensil was not yet clean, I would spend extra effort in scrubbing. Also, I noticed that the frying pan I was using was almost worn-out. There surface was so scratched that the brownish interior made the pan look dirty. That’s another reason for the extra efforts. Then, I started to reflect on my habit, my cooking habit. I bought lots of bowls and plates and I would scatter them on the table and use as many as possible for preparation. So, despite the fact that it saved some energy in deciding where to put the ingredients, it caused even bigger problems. Since I needed to bend over to do the washing, when the heavy workload prolonged the time of washing, I often felt pain in my waist.
To make life easier, I decided to deal with the problem by not dealing with it——I gave up cooking completely.
Part 3
1)Does studying and learning make people tired today?
Reflecting on my own experience, I found out that sometimes I am not only not tired but also relieved or fulfilled when studying. So, I think whether people feel tired or not may have something to do with the purpose of learning. When I learn for myself, for fun, say, learn how to play basketball. Even I put in great effort in running and shooting basketball, the physical pain may not cause further doubt on whether doing all these things is worthwhile because I am actually enjoying the tiredness. But when I have to learn, say, math or physics, I might get intimidated and worn out the moment I sit in front of the desk and that tiredness needs days to heal.
2)When do people usually feel tired?
Life is hard and it is especially hard when people have to pay extra efforts in solving problems that could’ve been avoided——whatever the cause might be. For example, last week I ordered a housing service to clean my whole room. When I found out that my bathroom floor was still dirty, with hairs and dirt and all that, even cleaning did not take up much time and energy, since I did not expect that to happen, I suddenly felt extremely tired. Moreover, sometimes merely thinking of the tasks that await can make people feel tired, as if they have already experienced all that. This tiredness is mental, rather than physical and it might lead to procrastination.
3)What do you think about striving for learning and striving for sports?
I think they share almost the same importance. Learning knowledge or skills can prepare people for future work or education. Without that basic knowledge, people are incapable of completing tasks with complicated background information. For example, to realize a certain function in an application, programmers need knowledge of math and programming language. Therefore, putting in efforts in those areas is critical in establishing a successful career. However, if those programmers do not pay attention in exercising, to strive for a healthy body, they might fail to withstand the pressure of working. No matter how skilled they are, the working style is not sustainable.
4)Do people have fewer holidays now than in the past?
I don’t think so. The efficiency to finish certain tasks has greatly increased because of the various approaches driven by modern technology and advanced working patterns. In large corporations, standard operation procedures (SOPs) make everyone function well in their own familiar positions. When people only need to do a certain part of a job, they have more free time and can enjoy their holidays while still being able to finish the tasks on time. In the past, people also had to use primitive tools to solve intricate problems like they need a plow and a hoe for tilling, which took a much longer time than using machines. They therefore had almost no holidays throughout a whole year.
5)What are the differences between feeling tired after studying and after exercising?
It is said that “effort never lies”. People need positive feedbacks to carry on when feeling tired. After spending a whole afternoon in the gym, people may feel sore all over their body but in the next day or the day after next, when they find out that they can lift a heavier weight, their pain becomes worthwhile. In the case of study, when people only finish learning of one chapter or one knowledge point, it is less likely that they can solve problems that really exist in their tests. That might be the reason why some students tend to give up when their effort does not pay off in a short period of time. Their leaps take longer time so the tiredness might not be easily compensated.
