Part 1 Money
1.Do you prefer to save money or spend money?
I’d rather spend my money than just saving them. Even accumulating fortune in my bank account and receiving interest can add to a sense of achievement, saving is always the process that leads to spending money and it is spending that actually elevates my living standard.
2.How do you save money?
Well, I believe that if people want to save, they have to make effort to earn more. For example, I receive red packets from my relatives this New Year holiday. Instead of saving them into my bank account, I invested them into bonds and stocks. Even I knew that it was a risky move, at least I tried to make a gain.
3.What do you think about payment apps or mobile payments?
They are convenient indeed. A portable mobile phone is always much more convenient than all the cash and coins. Also, in crowded places, it is easier to get stolen by pickpockets if I put cash in my wallet and pockets. But as long as I do not leak my password, my online account is safe and sound
4.Do you use a credit card to buy things?
To be honest, I do not like the idea of spending before earning. Generally, people would form a habit of spending more than they could afford. In order to fill in the expanding gap between earning and spending, some may even indulge into crimes or other misbehavior.
Part 2
Describe a place you would like to go to relax
You should say:
Where it is
When you would like to go there
What you would do there
And explain why you would like to go to this place to relax
My ideal place would actually be a sandy beach with abundant marine creatures within reach. As I am living in an inland city, I always find it soothing to look at the waves and currents kissing the shore——this seemingly monotonous rhythm synchronizes with my soul and eases it quickly. When my mind is filled with worldly affairs, like how to elevate my performance in company, how to become a qualified citizen, etc., this scenery helps get rid of all these negative feelings and leaves me only with the boundless sea surface.
Also, I like the way the sands are, soft but solid, warm but drafty. I can bury myself into the sand and by doing that, it is as if I were covered by mother earth itself. Nothing can compare to this closeness to nature. Sands are clean, too. In some part of the world, sands are the substitute of water to take a shower.
Well, the most important thing is always about food. Seafood is so delicious that the nature’s gift of umami flavor condenses into all the shells and skins. A simple grill would do the trick to turn those crawling, bragging little monsters into delicacies.
If I have the opportunity to hide away from reality to relax, I would definitely choose the beach as my refuge.
Part 3
1.Do people have enough places to relax in your country?
Well, for kids, I think their playing space is not enough. China is a very populous country and even birth rate has declined in recent years, newly-born children still take up a large proportion of the population. It can often be seen that 10 kids are squeezed into a small playground in the community, waiting in lines to play with some facilities. But for the working adults, yes. As they are so busy, their only place to relax may be their home, to be more specific, their beds. As long as they have a place to sleep, they can relax. It is a seemingly pathetic picture but it is the truth in this labor-intensive country.
2.What do people usually do when they are relaxed?
The activities people refer to as recreation differ among people, mainly depending on their perception of what actually soothes their soul. For those busy workers, they might find a game or two at night a great solace, in which they can be invincible in a virtual battlefield and relieve all their pressure and anxiety from work. But we have to admit that to win a game, players need to put in considerable amount of energy and effort. So the process itself is not that relaxing. For example, professional game players will not find those games relaxing. Rather, they would prefer to do some sports or to take a walk to change their mood.
3.Is physical activity good for relaxation?
I do think it is. It is scientifically proven that dopamine, which is excreted when doing sports is a main source of happiness within our body. Human body cannot resist the changes brought by chemical substance and no matter how depressed people are before exercising, they invariably wear smile on their faces in the end. Also, people all like to hang out with friends for sports. Having company is another way for people to share and sort of distribute their negative emotions with those who they trust. In this sense, they might just get rid of all the worries after a simple basketball game.
4.Do you think that spending time in front of a screen helps people relax?
For most people, yes. Game designers are super clever people that they devise mechanisms that make people get addicted fast. So, for them, the pleasure is easily gained. Despite the fact that most people actually only have a limited time playing video games, they can quickly immerse themselves into the atmosphere and receive massive relaxation. However, if on vacations, some teenagers sit for 10 hours straight to play, they not only get sore back and waist and eyes, but also have their heart palpitating and nerves intensified, which has an adverse effect compared to what they really want. So it is a matter of range, within which people are relaxed and vice versa.
5.Do people have to spend a lot of money to relax?
Well, for children and adolescents, no. They do not have money to support and their main way to relax is just playing in anyplace with their friends so as long as the access to the place is free or charges a little, it is cheap for them to relax. However, as parents are more and more concerned with early education, kids’ relaxation may be more complicated as the parents might integrate learning process into this innocent playing. It is more costly than the old ways. For example, when children are watching cartoons happily, they might actually be learning those words and phrases that the cartoon maker deliberately put into the cartoon. Therefore, the cartoon itself might cost their parents much.
