雅思口语Part1 Shopping

1.Do you like shopping?

I do think I am, but in a different way. I love to throw myself into my sofa and browse virtual stores on Taobao. Mostly I do not aim at a particular product, but my cart is gradually filled with items that I find curious about rather than I really need. Luckily, I haven’t determined to make any purchase yet!

2.Do you compare prices when you shop? Why?

Yeah definitely. I think sometimes the purpose of comparing has transcended merely striving for a saving. Well, saving money is good but it is better to realize that I have the insight and profound judgement to choose a product at its best value. It is more of a challenge, a tinge of fun in my daily life.

3.Is it difficult for you to make choices when you shop?

Actually, I always have a hard time deciding what to buy. When weighing different products’ pros and cons, it is hard to set up a quantified criteria to determine which product is the most cost-effective. So, in most cases, I may allow myself to purchase on a sudden impulse.

4.Do you think expensive products are always better than cheaper ones?

Mostly, yeah. Because of the fierce market competition, nowadays business people dare not to set the price of a product way above the average of its category, or the sale might be stagnant. So, the expensive price must result from an increase in its cost. The better the material is the better the quality.

雅思口语Part2

1.Describe someone (a famous person) that is a role model for young people

You should say:

Who he/she is
How you knew him/her
What he/she has done
And explain why he/she can be a role model for young people

Freddie Mercury, a controversial figure, an absolute talent, one of the most influential characters in the history of rock music. The success of Mercury and his rock-band Queen was unprecedented and their concerts were always fully packed with roaring audience coming back for more.

However, apart from his extraordinary talent, which cannot be replicated by ordinary young people, it is his determination to face his so-called “deviant” sexual orientation that deserves to be highlighted. He was a gay man and he caught AIDs. Instead of getting lost and depressed, he strived harder for a better performance. Back at that time, homosexuality was not that widely accepted but Mercury, even feeling tangled up inside himself, did not let that degrade his stage performance. On the contrary, he maintained passionate on stage and gave out numerous classical performances. He remained candid to the loved ones around him, sincerely and wholeheartedly, so he received support from them, even in his darkest days.

For young people, uncertainty of life and judgement from their surrounding may be their major obstacle, but Mercury, through his life, showed that no matter how our lives lie ahead or how others may lay their blames us, to firmly step forward and accept our true self is always the approach. Once we embrace who we are, we are strong inside, and we can end up to strive, to seek, to find and not to yield.

雅思口语Part 3

1.What kinds of people are likely to be the role models for teenagers?

Those people have to convey positive attitudes towards life and the world. Teenagers will face a great many challenges in their future academic journey and in their careers, and they, with limited experience, are easily overwhelmed and left with nothing to do. In those desperating circumstances, they need those exhilarating sermons to cheer them up. For example, in hearing that an athlete returns to field after a severe injury, young people will then think that the difficulties they have in life is noncomparable to the injury and they have no excuse of being beaten down. So they strive harder for their goal.

2.Is it important for children to have a role model?

I reckon it necessary for children to have a role model. It is always better to picture what they will be like in the future and even in their real-life paths, there occur a great many incidents to mess up with their original plan, as long as they have a clear destination, a bottom line never crossed, they can resist insidious temptations and not get lost. However, it is also inappropriate to deify their models, to view their behaviors as paramount doctrines. A role model can make mistakes and this is when parents should intervene to rectify potential misunderstandings about the misbehavior.

3.Are there any differences between today’s famous people and those of the past?

There are more ways, even ridiculous ways, for today’s people to become famous. Sometimes, they become famous just because they resemble another famous figure. For example, a pancake seller suddenly became well known in the past months, because he was almost a doppelganger of Jay Chow, one of the top pop singers in China. His pancake stand was quickly filled with those who wanted to attach themselves to this heated topic and become famous——well, they might actually become famous by reporting the pancake seller. However, in the past, famous people were almost the elite in their fields and gained popularity out of their professional abilities.

4.What qualities do famous people have?

I think they must have a strong heart to withstand pressure from outside. There is a Chinese saying that “Bigger trees are hit more severely by the wind”. When gaining popularity, they are exposed to diversified judgements and for sure, some of them, even a substantial part of them, can be negative. Moreover, those abusive comments do not always make sense. So that famous people should learn not to be influenced by them while still trying learn from them, in case some blames are evidence based.

5.What kinds of people are likely to become famous?

Gold will glitter, as is said. I always think those who possess unique or state-of-the-art skills deserve to be the focus. Their fame gives credit to their continuous and strenuous effort which nobody has ever heard of or even cared about. So, when their craftsmanship is revealed to the public, everyone will be attracted and their fame will skyrocket. For example, I once saw a craftsman making a set of mahjong out of bamboos. The whole videoclip was 20 minutes long but he used as long as one month to make, to exhibit how intricate it was to hand-make items comparable with machine-made ones. Soon it became one of the most heated video on the internet.
